Recommended for families with children

In February 2016 we spent a week with Jamal in the desert and returned with unforgettable memories. Jamal accompanied us during the whole trip and everything worked perfectly, including pick-up service at the airport, transfer southwards to Mhamid and back again. Jamal welcomed us like good friends and we enjoyed his warm-hearted hospitality, which included an invitation for lunch with his large family. We walked for a total of 4 days through the desert.
 
During that tour we had the opportunity to sleep twice under the starry sky, which was a special event. Preparing the meals on the open fire and all the tasty food in general will remain a fond memory (we were spared of any gastrointestinal problems).
 
Our nearly 3 year old son also enjoyed the trip. Playing in the sand or in the desert camp was a fun diversion and in the silence of nature we as parents were able to rest. We made the experience that Moroccans are very child-friendly; our son never lacked playmates and language barriers didn’t exist for him. Is there anything more beautiful for a child (and adults) than sitting around a campfire, listening to the singing and drumming of our companions and falling asleep in this peaceful atmosphere whilst being wrapped in warm woollen blankets?
 
The farewell was hard for both sides- hopefully it won’t be our last visit to Morocco. It was our first time in Africa and it took some courage. But we had a completely harmonious holiday and we can recommend this way of travelling to other families with small (outgoing) children.

Straightforward and reliable

We flew non-stop from Basel, Switzerland, to Marrakesh. Here our guide Jamal waited at the arrival hall. He ordered a private taxi, which brought us from the airport to Imi Oughlad, the starting point of our 5-day trek.

There we were warmly welcomed in a guest house and settled into our rooms. Shortly after, a delicious Moroccan dinner was served. The next day, 2 mules and 2 Berbers joined us in order to accompany us on our trek.

During the whole journey everything went very well. The daily stages were accurate and the trek led us through wonderful landscapes. The local crew found the most beautiful places to stay for the night.

We had dinner under the starry sky and slept in a tent. We never had to worry about meals, because we always got provided with fresh food and Moroccan tea. At the Toubkal basecamp we stayed a little away form the crowed and hence could enjoy the calm. After the successful climb of Toubkal summit, we returned to Imlil within 2 days, the last stage before Marrakesh.

All in all, we enjoyed a great voyage, which would not have passed that well and in such an uncomplicated manner without Jamal’s knowledge, openness and reliability. We would be happy to do it again.
